Why WOULD Randy try to stand with Toney? Randy is a wrestler not a striker even though he can hold his own against many of them. Thats like fighting a grappler when your a striker and you being the striking trying to takedown a the grappler, why play to your opponents strengths.

An MMA fighter is more well rounded in fighting using knees, kicks, bows, submissions, and grappling not just punches. An MMA fighter is a complete fighting machine using all his tools not just one. I have a purple belt in 2nd generation kempo karate learnng nerve strikes, bone breaks and death strikes. I am also currently taking a boxing class and I have learned no matter how good a striker you are in boxing if someone takes you down and boxing is all you know your done gameover. Randy fought a very smart fight he knew his opponents weakness and capitalized on it.

fuck randy. weak ass fight, did not try to stand at all with him, and then he has the nerve to say boxing is under mma’s thumb. first off all, toney isnt even a natural hw, it would take alot of energy for him to get himself up with all that weight, then you’ve got randall on top of him. i lost some respect for couture when he said that bullshit statement. everyone knows that toney didnt take it seriously and that hes not much of a contender in the sport anymore. he didnt have alot of movement at all, he just stood in front of couture. he underestimated him and thats what messed him up in the fight early on. get a klitchsko brother to fight him. i bet it would be extremely tough to get vlad down, he has a shit load of vitality and youth in him, he’d put a lot more effort into it. even though its true that there are more tools to use in mma, boxers have the absolute best striking. theres also mental toughness, heart, durability, etc. it is very hard to master boxing. just have a top boxing contender walk into this right now, and i promise it would be a much more competitive fight. you’d have to be pretty naive to think that toney was representing boxing and that was the best boxing had to offer at this moment of time. all i know is that an mma fighter wouldnt step foot into a boxing ring to fight a pure pro boxer. since mma fighters keep saying “oh we have striking prowess”, etc then walk into a boxing ring and fight a pro boxer right now.

Judging from the takedown and his ground game I doubt that Tony had much ground training, then again Randy’s been wrestling for years…JUST LIKE TONY HAS BEEN BOXING FOR YEARS…Striking is Tony’s strength you really think he would try to take Randy down and GnP him to a finish? If an MMA fighter goes and has a boxing match I doubt the result would be much different than this match, no seasoned MMA fighter has the level of striking the boxers have and most likely it would be 2nd or 3rd round KO without much damage to the boxer.

Its already been said before, MMA is simply boxing and more. Sure a boxer would win in a boxing match and an MMA fighter would win in an mma match but in a real fight the boxer wouldnt stand a chance.
mma and boxing..has a big difference…mma fighter can’t defeat a pure boxer in a stand up fight.. but a pure boxer has a chance to defeat a mma fighter in the ground…see the difference..boxing is far more superior than mma.. in boxing it take’s more than 7 years or more to be a real contender and a champion..in order to achieve that..u need to train a lot…boxing is not about power or speed..its all bout technique..stamin.. heart..can take a punch etc..but mma its all about luck..1 clean punch then its over…
