Urijah “The California Kid” Faber is 26 is already the Bantamweight Champion (135 – 145 lb) of The King of the Cage (KOTC), a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting organization. Ulijah Faber won his first championship belt woth KOTC in November 2004.

Faber was raised by holistic parents and maintains extremely healthy eating habits in his diet. He trains with Andy Kay, a Muay Tai specialist from Thailand, Joe Urias, a California boxing hotshot, and BJJ World Champion Cassio Werneck, his mentor and jiu-jitsu expert. Faber has been an athlete since his early childhood and teenage years with a stellar high school career as a star wrestler. His college years were spent at the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) where he earned a wrestling scholarship in the 133lb. class after his freshman year on the team. He retained his top-ranking status through the rest of his education, leaving the University as the all time win leader. On two separate occasions during his 4 years at UC Davis, he placed as a top 12 qualifier for the NCAA Division I tournament.

Feber recently defended his World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Featherweight title in Las Vegas on March 24th, 2007 and delivered a spectacular guillotine submission over Dominic Cruz. By now, Faber has established himself as a man among featherweights and is enjoying well-deserved commercial success through the WEC and MMA organizations like the King of the Cage events. The WEC and KOTC are giving guys like Faber a fighting chance to dazzle fans and reap the rewards of major TV networks and bigger venues. Faber, with an impressive career record of 19-1 says, “It was kind of tough there for awhile. Mixed martial arts is something you get into because you love it, but of course you want the opportunity to make it big.” Faber is reportedly working out practically 24 hours a day to maintain his powerful physique and fighting stamina.

The WEC is making it possible for smaller fighters to hit the big time. The Ultimate Fighting Championships, another MMA organization, caps its lowest weight class at 170 pounds while the PRIDE Fighting Championships in Japan cuts its lightweight off at 163.
